Марк Руффало и Скарлетт Йоханссон, недавно завершившие съемки в «Мстителях», воссоединились для работы над музыкальной драмой «Может ли песня спасти твою жизнь? / Can a Song Save Your Life?» Джона Карни.
В центре сюжета находится молодая девушка Грета (Скарлетт Йоханссон), которая вместе с давним бойфрендом переезжает в Нью-Йорк в надежде построить успешную музыкальную карьеру. Однако ради заключения крупного сольного контракта парень бросает Грету, и теперь ей приходится рассчитывать только на себя.
Во время выступления в одном из баров девушку замечает не слишком удачливый музыкальный продюсер (Марк Руффало), восхищенный талантом певицы и ее искренностью, он решает воспользоваться счастливым шансом и изменить к лучшему две жизни - свою и Греты.
